Explaining the "strong female leadership" in The Last Jedi

Steve (The Dark Ninja of Mockery) writes:

Remember, The Last Jedi was written by this guy:

Who (apparently without being coerced) married this woman:

Now, I'm no expert on this Alpha, Gamma, Sigmund stuff but I reckon The Soy Awakens up there is pretty low on the sociosexual totem pole.

How do these guys imagine "stronk wimmin"? As either their horrible overbearing mothers, or their cuntacular teachers, or their vagina dentata'ed problem-spectacled bosswives."

Hair like that on a woman is a warning that every other evil rides in her train. Though even when she was blonde she wasn't quite right...

... In all honesty I'm really just *PISSED* they "f'ed up" Star Wars.

So yeah, they coulda had their "strong woman archetype" as they really so wanted but jacked up the potential of what could of been with such a crappy story leading off from the original Trilogy.

Literally almost ANYBODY on this site can come up with a better Star Wars than this mess they got out unfortunately.

The original Extended Universe should have *RIGHTFULLY FOLLOWED*.

Truly only a SJW brain-washed puppet can think this stuff "good" in any sense... Makes no sense.

Glad I've never been back to the movie theathres in an *ETERNITY* even since it's all been nothing but false gospel socialist "Feminine Imperative" nonsense propaganda preaching lol to enslave the masses which is working too perfectly it's only sad for the folks who *REFUSE* to see the truth.

(P.S. Not AT ALL "hatin'" on the actors/actresses hired on to make these films as they did a great job "fulfilling" the "Narrative's" wicked agenda themes as I know a few didn't really like what they signed up for *cough, cough* Mark Hamill *cough*. Yeah, they just pooped, pissed and spat all over one of America's greatest cinematic accomplishments. If that don't make you pissed, I don't know what will. Amen.)

They meaning the Stronk Wimmin and Soyboy factions should be taunted and dared to double down on their mess.

Well, her dad did shoot unarmed John Wayne in the back. From Wikipedia "Bruce MacLeish Dern (born June 4, 1936) is an American actor, often playing supporting villainous characters of unstable nature."

Movies are Just Entertainment --- Right?????

You know a movie is bad when you roll your eyes. Worse when you laughable at the coercive, transparent, and cringe worthy try hard attempt to infuse social SJW messages into the movie.

And bad when, despite the always impressive graphics (Hollywood does technics well, they just have no soul) you find yourself looking for the fast forward button for a bit. Its poison when you have bit of anger combined with melancholy for what they are so gleefully attacking.

We must secure the existence of The Force and a future for Jedi children.

Slightly OT.

I haven't seen any of the new movies. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the writes seem intent on denying any of the (legacy) male characters a heroic death.

Typically, a hero deserves a hero'd death.

Of course, it could just be crappy screen-writing and almost no one has a heroic death.

That might be the byproduct of years of post-modernism and deconstructionism in schools. no one understands the heroic character.

So that's what happened to the semi cute chick from Jurassic Park? In her defense, she had a nicer personality there. I haven't seen the new Star Wars and I might wait till I came stream it online to see it, but from what I can see, she went nuts on this one.

As someone who I can't recall right at the moment said, they seem to be ignoring the obvious analysis that all these Stronk Women in command positions are probably the reason the Rebels, despite their apparently final and decisive victory in Return of the Jedi, are once again a dwindling, ragtag band of incompetents getting their asses righteously kicked by the highly capable, "evil" white dudes.

There's a way to accomplish a fitting end to heroes and push the strong woman meme.

Take "Logan." Logan's at the end of his life and dies heroically. New breed of Bennington kid mutants set up for future runs (with girl wolverine). Toward the end of the movie, if you watched it for the first time, you genuinely wondered if the writers were going to kill off Logan. Before his death, he imparts wisdom to his daughter.

TLJ? Luke is denied the hero's death. Instead, he dies doing some goofy astral projection. Certainly, you can say, "Yoda's death," but at the time, Yoda wasn't considered a hero, only a "jedi master."

Saw the movie at $5 movie night last night. Glad I didn't pay a cent more for it. Theater was 1/3 full.

What an abomination. The only compelling moments were between Kylo and Rey.
They ruined Luke's character.
Leia will be more lifelike when she's computer animated in the next movie.
Po's character was the only one of the Resistance that had any charisma, but they spent the whole movie showing him to be a dumb Male in favor of those brilliant, powerful female leadership.

Nothing the rest of the characters did made any sense, nor did I care.

This movie was truly garbage.

Nice halo on the purple-haired one. These people are a bad joke.

I suppose it could also be a yarmulke but given the rest of that outfit and the subversive hair color, I'm going with halo.

Apparently Rian is an accepted alternative spelling to Ryan. Still, his parents did him no favors with that name.

"Who (apparently without being coerced) married this woman:"

She looks like she escaped from a Far Side cartoon. (Which may perhaps indicate Gary Larson's sociosexual status...)

From what I understand about the latest DisneyWars, with its complete nihilism and disrespect for what came before, it's basically what G.R.R. Martin (another Gamma, big surprise) would have made.

"Hair like that on a woman is a warning that every other evil rides in her train"

Unnatural hair colors like purple or green are an indication that she's willing to rebel against nature. Sometimes, younger women do that simply because of peer pressure (cf. tattoos), but if she's in her 30s and still doing that... yeah.

Ryan said...

Anchorman, Luke died heroically after distracting the first order and allowing the rebels to escape. Not sure where you're getting that he didn't. Just because it was via Skype?

Ryan said...

For that matter, Han died heroically trying to save his son, but knowing he probably couldn't.

These movies aren't nearly as bad as everyone is making them out to be.

Another potential reason these films are bad, the "story group" that is behind the overall narrative direction of the new star wars movies is entirely female:

"[Disney brand manager] Kathleen Kennedy founded the group in 2012 when she succeeded George Lucas as president of Lucasfilm, putting Kiri Hart [right] a former film and TV writer, in charge of the unit. Ms. Hart’s first move was to make the story group entirely female, starting with Rayne Roberts and Carrie Beck."

I think we have different understandings of the hero's arc.

A hero's end should be fitting for the works he performed to attain heroic status.

Luke and Han felled an empire.

YMMV

Anchorman said...

For that matter, why couldn't Luke have done it in person, rather than "Skype?" We're talking about a universe of impossible/possible and the writers could write that in.

His death could have been heroic in the classic sense and not in the, "Ohhh, you tricked us, I thought it was for real!" sense. Imagine him taking on a legion, the scene ends as the numbers begin to overwhelm him, and his death echoes for ages as a rallying cry.

If you think their deaths are heroic, I can see your argument. I just think it shows more of the corrosive effect of modern literary movements that eroded the heroic epic.

We've forgotten how to write heroes. They all have to be deeply flawed, or secretly terrified, or something. It's done to "humanize" the character, but it denies the audience grandeur.

I'm not saying every hero should be spotless or that the hero arc can't contain complexity.

I am saying that Luke especially deserved a hero's death. Han less so, but denying both heroic deaths is unmistakingly intentional.

Purple hair's death was heroic, worthy of remembering. Who was she in the lore? Seriously asking.

I like this idea of talking about SMV in movies, whether characters or the directors and writers. For example a friend showed me this movie "Grandma's Boy" involving a love triangle between main characters Alex, JP, and Samantha. Alex the lead is probably beta/delta on the Vox scale, but I can't decide if JP is omega, gamma, or just insane?!

OGRE said...

JP believes he is a robot that has Hide In Plain Sight. Whether hes omega or gamma, he's vagina repellent.

Alex is hard to classify. Definitely operates under his own rules, so possible sigma traits. But he also jerked off to a Lara Croft doll. And given his environment and the other males hes around he has some situational alpha status.

I wonder if in real life any of these clowns would demand their security detail be staffed exclusively by 5'7" women.

Perhaps they will never reap what they sow, but I can still hope.
